It was Father Jimmy Boyle who befriended Ricky at Rainier School and advocated for him to come to L’Arche. Ricky lived at Anawim for many years, and now he happily lives at Hopespring. He has a passion for cars, trucks, RV’s and construction work. To indulge his passion for cars, Ricky volunteers at the Lemay – America’s Car Museum. He also really enjoys traveling and visiting friends, whether by car, train or airplane.
Ricky takes pleasure in helping others and having a sense of independence. His work is important to him, whether it is at his job or at home. Sometimes it can be challenging for Ricky to accept help, especially from new assistants. Ricky’s faith is important to him, and he shares his walk with Jesus by leading community prayers.
He often accompanies assistants and leaders on outreach outings, to talk to people about life in L’Arche. At home, Ricky loves playing his keyboard in the sunroom, and he listens to the radio most of the day. He appreciates the outdoors (more so when weather is nice) and enjoys going on walks.
