About the Building

The Welcome Center will provide:

• A place to welcome people with intellectual disabilities living in the Tacoma/Pierce County area, and their families and friends
• Dedicated space for expanded Day Supports, providing connection and engagement for core members who are unable to participate in integrated work or volunteer settings
• A multi-functional space, including a kitchen, for activities and programs where L’Arche community members and guests from the broader community can form relationships
• A gathering hall for L’Arche events and for hosting community and civic groups
• Adequate office and meeting space for L’Arche administrative functions

Welcome Center Features

• 7,000 - 8,000-square-foot building with an anticipated construction cost of $1.7 million
• Meeting and board rooms
• Overnight space for school and volunteer “immersion” groups
• Core member-friendly library and quiet area
• Dedicated storage and work space for crafts
• Reception area
• Gathering hall
• Kitchen with accessible features, compliant with Health Department requirements
• Restrooms with showers
• Office space for administration and program coordinators
