About the Building
The Welcome Center will provide:
- A place to welcome people with intellectual disabilities living in the Tacoma/Pierce County area, and their families and friends
- Dedicated space for expanded Day Supports, providing connection and engagement for core members who are unable to participate in integrated work or volunteer settings
- A multi-functional space, including a kitchen, for activities and programs where L’Arche community members and guests from the broader community can form relationships
- A gathering hall for L’Arche events and for hosting community and civic groups
- Adequate office and meeting space for L’Arche administrative functions
Welcome Center Features
- 7,000 - 8,000-square-foot building with an anticipated construction cost of $1.7 million
- Meeting and board rooms
- Overnight space for school and volunteer “immersion” groups
- Core member-friendly library and quiet area
- Dedicated storage and work space for crafts
- Reception area
- Gathering hall
- Kitchen with accessible features, compliant with Health Department requirements
- Restrooms with showers
- Office space for administration and program coordinators
- Outdoor patio and parking area
