2016 Fund-an-Item
Each year at the auction we ask the people in the room to raise their paddle and support a specific project or aspect of L'Arche's mission. This year we ask you to raise your paddle in support of our assistants.
A L'Arche assistant wears many hats: companion, personal caregiver, grocery shopper, cook, money manager, chauffeur, house cleaner, coach and friend, just to name a few. In return, assistants tell us years later how their time in L'Arche was the "university of life." It's where they learned about mutual relationship, vulnerability, and practical life skills, such as how to budget, shop and cook for a household. Many assistants stay connected with the community for decades and continue to support us in significant ways.
More than 75% of L'Arche Tahoma Hope's annual budget is earmarked for personnel costs. While core members are at the heart of our community, without assistants we could not carry out our mission. Please join us in celebrating them!
